Acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of several ancient Chinese medical procedures. It is believed to help relieve pain and treat diseases by restoring the normal flow of energy through the body. A typical acupuncture treatment involves the insertion of hair-thin needles into specific points on the body to elicit a healing response. The sterilised and disposable needles are so thin that most people feel nothing more than a slight tingling sensation when they are inserted.. Each treatment lasts approximately 20 to 30 minutes. Heat stimulation and cupping used together with the needles improves the efficacy of healing.

How many treatments will I need?

The number and frequency of treatments will vary from patient to patient. Some symptoms may be relieved after the first treatment, while others may take 10 to 20 treatments depending on the severity of the existing condition. In general, a disorder such as having an ongoing pain for many years requires two to three treatments a week for the first few weeks. Gradually, the frequency can be reduced to once or twice a month.

What therapeutic effects does acupuncture have?

Acupuncture regulates the body’s Qi (vital energy), strengthens one’s immunity, and unblocks the meridian system. World Health Organization (WHO) also recognizes acupuncture’s therapeutic effects for 63 widely varying conditions, such as various pain syndromes, post-stroke syndrome, male and female fertility issues.

Is Acupuncture safe?

As acupuncture needles penetrate the skin, they are regarded as invasive procedures, and therefore not without risk. However injuries are rare among patients treated by trained practitioners. We use sterile needles that are disposable and used only once. Regarding the relative safety of acupuncture as compared with other treatments, the side effects of acupuncture are extremely low.

Who Should Be Cautious In Receiving Acupuncture Treatment?

Acupuncture treatment should be postponed or rescheduled under circumstances such as severe fatigue and excessive sweating. People with critical illness, severe heart disease, severe hypertension and pregnancy women should be cautious when considering acupuncture.
